New Year, New Rules: EU Customs Changes from 1 Jan 2026 – don’t get stuck !
November 28, 2025Dear customers,
We would like to inform you of an important development regarding customs regulations in France.
What is going to change?
Currently, the EORI number in France generally begins with the country code FR, followed by the company’s SIRET number.
Starting at the end of 2025, only the EORI number based on the SIREN (the company’s identifier at the head office level) will be accepted in all customs clearance systems in France.
EORI numbers based on the SIRET will no longer be usable.
This change is part of a European harmonization and a modernization of customs systems.
When ?
As of January 1, 2026, all customs procedures must be carried out using an EORI number based on the SIREN. From that date onward, the former number will no longer be accepted for customs formalities (import, export, transit, etc.).
What impact will this have on you?
- A new EORI number will be assigned to you upon request or automatically for those holding a customs authorization.
- It will be necessary to use this new number for all your customs operations starting from January 1, 2026.
- Without any action on your part, your operations will be blocked by customs starting January 1, 2026.
Concrete risk: Blockage at essential customs services
Our advice starting now:
- Inform your import/export teams about this upcoming change.
- Immediately request your new EORI (EORI SIREN) from French customs.
